Radio 216 je osnovan 7. januara 2001. godine i od samog osnivanja je samo finansirajući.
Radio 216 je jedina radio stanica na teritoriji opštine Žitište koja pruža potpune informacije svojim meštanima putem informativnog programa koji se odnosi na rad lokalne samouprave, kao i na teme koje se tiču stanovnika opštine Žitište. Život u senci velikih gradova (Zrenjanin, Kikinda), stvorio je potrebu za prvom lokalnom radio stanicom na ovim prostorima. Potreba da se meštani malih sredina informišu i zabave putem jednog lokalnog medija pretočena je iz ideje u delo početkom 2001. godine na opšte zadovoljstvo, ne samo meštana opštine Žitište, nego i susedne opštine Nova Crnja u kojoj je Radio 216 veoma cenjena i slušana radio stanica.
