Welcome to our home page. Latvia's Folk Radio Oira was created with support of the Culture Management Centre "Lauska" and financial support of the Latvia’s State Culture Capital Foundation.
In the spring of 2006, Edgars Skrāģis, a folk music enthusiast and formerly the guitarist with the "Laimas Muzykanti" folklore group, came up with the idea of creating an internet radio station. After testing phases, it officially went live on February 1, 2007.
This project is envisioned as providing a unique opportunity to listen to Latvian, Latgalian, Selonian, and Livonian folk music performed both traditionally and in a variety of interpretations by local musicians, as well as by groups from abroad. The radio station will also inform listeners about news in Latvia's folk music, folklore events and performances around the world.
